Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Cult

The founding father of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, died on 10th of November, 1938, at 09:05.

Every year on the 10th of November at exactly 9:05am, traffic stops throughout Turkey, people stand still for a moment, and sirens blare. The occasion is the anniversary of the death of the Republic’s founder.

When a country divides into in at least 3 social groups (conservatives, seculars and kurdish) you need a lot of propaganda to unite these parts. Generally using rhetoric like ‘our culture is so beautiful and diverse but still we are together’.
